HAND PIECING - EVENING STAR
6-hour workshop –

A
powerpoint presentation opens the class presenting the step by step
process followed by ‘hands on’ practice. Begin a few blocks
in Darlene’s “Evening Star” quilt seen in the book
Big Book of Scrap Quilts while learning to make and use accurate templates
and sew patchwork by hand anytime and anywhere. Other patchwork patterns
and the leaf and vine border will be demonstrated.
Supply
List : -Thimble and
misc. hand sewing tools -#11, fine silk pins
-Fiskars brand small scissors [chisel tip] -wallpaper knife
-ultra fine Sharpie permanent marking pen -Small, sharp scissors for threads
-plastic template material [opaque, rigid] -any mechanical pencil
-100% cotton 50/3 sewing thread, medium grey -appliqué sharp needle
-1 full new sheet of fine sandpaper or a sandpaper board -one ziploc bag
Fabrics:
2-3 fat quarters each of light, medium and dark fabrics to make one
or two blocks in class. Select an assortment of textures and colors.
A scrap quilt is easiest to plan. Much time will be spent discussing
fabric choices.
To Make the Full Quilt:
72 scraps [approx. 3”x 9”] in three varied color ranges
in assorted values and prints
1¾ yards background fabric
5/8 yard for the ½” strip on either side of the vine border
½ yard multi-colored print for the vine on the borders
1/8 yard bold tone and value for the 1” cornerstones
1¼ yard for backing
